Here is the latest club newsletter of 3/07.

Hello all,

As I’m sure most of you have heard, the annual ice fishing tournament was cancelled due to concerns with thin ice. This sounds a lot like last year. The club decided at the general membership meeting in January that due to safety concerns and the amount of money spent as well as planning for this event, the contest was cancelled. We will be discussing moving the tournament later into the year, perhaps March, to hopefully catch some good conditions, like thick ice.

As I’m sure all of you know by now, we have an up and running indoor range. The ventilation system is still having some final touches put on it which will hopefully be addressed by the end of March. In the meantime, pistol shooters; please, only use lanes 4, 5 and 6. Those are the best ventilated with our current system. We also ask that you limit your time in the range do 30 minutes and than ask that you step outside for some fresh air. This will help insure that you do not become over exposed to lead. Remember, you are shooting at your own risk. Please note! Use of the range is conducive upon having taken a walk-through with one of the club range officers. If you have not already done so, we urge you to attend a monthly membership meeting so that such a walk-through can be given upon the conclusion of the nightly meeting. The range is open 24/7 however, every Wednesday, all day, is set for pistol shooting. The same holds true for archery which is every Thursday, all day. This is not to say you cannot come up and shoot archery on Wednesdays and pistols on Thursdays. However, you will have to yield the range to members who have come on their respective days. Again, no use of the range until a walk-through and be sure to be courteous to fellow club members.

Hunter & Bow Safety classes are scheduled and upcoming. Hunter safety will be held 4/16 7PM – 9PM, 4/20 7PM – 10PM & 4/21 9AM – 2PM. Bow Safety will be held on 4/23 7PM – 9PM, 4/27 7PM – 10PM & 4/28 9AM –2PM. If you are interested, please schedule by contacting Mike DeGiulio at 883-8691.

Trap shoots will be starting up around the 3rd week in April. Shoots will be held on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays. We encourage everyone to attend. Any questions can be directed to Garth Shaw at 883-5615. Remember, both trap and archery is open to the public.

Want to find out what’s going on in the club? Call the club phone # at 883-8489 as the answering machine will be updated with current and upcoming club events. Also, be sure to check out the club website at www.fishhousefishandgame.com. The forums have been taken down for lack of use as well as infiltration by foreign entities selling various items such as medications. I will happily update the website with new pictures when I receive them, so get me those hunting/fishing pictures.

The gun raffle tickets will be available at the March membership meeting. Please be sure to stop in and pick up some from Greg.

Speaking of membership meetings, did you know that we have them on the first Tuesday of every month? We would really like to see you so please, try and make a meeting, even if it’s just once in a while. As part of the membership meeting is our monthly Building Fund drawing. It is very important that we make an effort in selling the tickets on a monthly basis. As it stands we have been selling 125-150 per month which really is not much of a take for the club. We should be selling all 200 per month. That means someone has a 1 in 200 chance at winning $1000.00 cash. That’s better odds than any lottery game going. Please be sure to stop by at the next membership meeting and request some tickets from Mike DeGiulio.

A recent addition to our club meetings is now there is food available at the bar, Nathan’s hotdogs and various munchies. If your strapped for time and missed your dinner, you can come to the membership meetings and have a bite.

The club recently updated its freezer. The old freezer is outside the door at the club and is free for anyone who would like it and yes, it does work.

Moving on to the outdoor range. Please be aware that we have range rules posted and we ask that they be followed to the letter. Please do not bring in any glass to shoot at. Also, please don’t bring in items such as, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, etc. If you do bring something in for targets other than paper, please be sure to take it out with you. When your finished shooting for the day, be sure to take down all your paper targets and place in a burn barrel.

We’ll be looking for volunteers for a few archery shoots this coming summer. If your interested, stop by a meeting and speak to Chris and Mark.

Finally, we have had a number of people interested in having a game night at the club, possibly on a Friday night. If anyone would be interested in cards, darts or pool, be sure to stop by and state your interest.

 That’s it for now.

 Sincerely,

Michael Ostrander, FHFG Secretary
